Employees of Christian Brothers Services Make the Difference with Blood Drive

Romeoville, IL, March 5, 2010 –Employees at Christian Brothers Services rolled up their sleeves yesterday and donated blood as part of an on site blood drive held in conjunction with Heartland Blood Centers.

Christian Brothers Services organized a four hour blood drive to benefit the local community blood bank. “We realize there is a need for blood in our area and we just want to help out,” says Buffy Blanton, human resources administrator at Christian Brothers Services. Heartland Blood Centers provided the Mobile Coach and staff for collecting the donations.

“We collect 350-500 units per day to supply 35 hospitals, in a 12 county area outside of Chicago,” noted Tom Cutter, team leader for Heartland Blood Centers, “we make sure it’s there when it’s needed.”

According to Heartland, the demand for blood has been increasing over the past 10 years; however, the supply of blood isn’t increasing fast enough to keep up with the growing demand. A single blood donation can help save the lives of up to three people and once donated, blood can be separated into several components including red blood cells, platelets and plasma.*

This was the second year Christian Brothers Services held a blood drive, 26 people donated blood and 20 units of blood were collected.
