Christian Brothers Services Celebrates
25 Years with Principal Financial Group

Romeoville, IL, Jan. 21, 2010 - Christian Brothers Services and Principal Financial Group of Des Moines, Iowa recently celebrated a 25 year business partnership with a luncheon held at Christian Brothers Services in Romeoville, Illinois.

The relationship between Christian Brothers Services (CBS) and Principal Financial Group began on January 1, 1985 when Christian Brothers Employee Benefit Services (CBEBS) and Christian Brothers Health Management Services for Religious (CBHMSR) were looking to lease a claim system to help staff process health claims for members. Principal Financial Group was one of the few organizations, at that time, which had an electronic claims system and was willing to lease that system to CBS.

The January celebration focused on the long history between both companies as well as the unique and cooperative relationship that has developed between them over the past 25 years. “It’s been a really good partnership,” John Airola, managing director of CBEBS, stated, “and over the years it’s really transformed into more than just the leasing of a system.” Wayne Ellis, vice president of national accounts for Principal Financial Group, presented Airola, Fr. Fran Dyer, OP, managing director of CBHMSR and Br. Michael Quirk, president/CEO of CBS, with a plaque commemorating the long alliance between the two companies. Fr. Dyer described the luncheon as, “a wonderful celebration that highlighted a long and prosperous relationship.”

Today, in addition to CBS’ leasing of Principal’s claim system, both companies work together on pre-admission reviews, case management, PPO networks and a mutual sharing of information on many healthcare related issues. “We expect to continue to explore all the services Principal can offer,” commented Fr. Dyer, “to help us in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.”

“They understand our needs, they understand how we’re different from them, an insured basis versus a Catholic church basis,” Airola said, summing up the relationship between both companies, “I would imagine that we’ll be doing business with them for a long time to come.”
